Setting off from Preston was a gloomy start and we soon realised how damn cold it was , the fog was too heavy to see where we were going and it was a brave man to ride with the visor open , but hey this was part of the challenge The sky cleared up at Carnforth and the sun added much needed warmth , the Milnthorpe boys were ready and waiting so we soon set off for Langdale .
The camp site was quiet and so the usual spot was chosen , Micky G and the boys from York already had their tent pitched and were sat sun bathing outside the Old Dungeon Ghyll . The sun didn't last long in the valley and it was time to retire inside ( but I'm not sure it was any warmer ) and get stuck into the anti freeze . The guys from Barrow arrived and we soon wandered down the road to find the others at the Stickle Barn .
The rest of the scooterists stupid enough to turn up had arrived and a decent turn out enjoyed the atmosphere with attendees from York . Stoke , Barrow , Workington , Milnthorpe , Sedburgh , Preston , Morecambe , Preston , Blackburn , Garstang .
Chucking out time came round soon and head torches were required for the walk back to the tents , the sky was clear and the temperature had dropped . Only Faggy could have found the dead sheep in the field , on the way back , but I suppose only he knows why he carried it back to the campsite , maybe a bit of extra-curricular activity was planned . It was difficuly to get a good nite's kip , especially as the temperature dropped to minus seven degrees - I knew I should have actually got inside the sleeping bag !
Packing up the tents and cleaning the ice from the scooter seat caused a bit of frost bite , couple this with a cracking hangover then I wasn't looking forward to the ride home . Some of the guys didn't have to worry about this and continued to sup on the Amber Nectar ( which had created its own ice cubes during the night ) Good job we could just nip round to the Stickle Barn for breckie , a couple of hot brews and a Full English revived the spirit and so off we set .
The bottle of water in the Glove Box had still not defrosted by the time we got to Preston , but at least the sun had kept the roads ice free .
Thanks for all the attendees and see you in York soon .
